Investing in our future: White House honors Dr. T. Berry Brazelton :: Investing in our future means investing in our children.
That's the message that Boston Children's renowned pediatrician T.Berry Brazelton wants everyone to hear, loud and clear.
Brazelton was one of 11 individuals from Head Start programs around the country who was honored by the White House on June 18th as a "Champion of Change." The Champions of Change program is part of President Obama's Winning the Future Initiative. If anyone has spent his life thinking about our future, it's Brazelton.
Along with guiding millions of parents in raising their children, Brazelton collaborated with Ed Zigler and Julius Richmond to create Head Start, a comprehensive early education program for low-income children that, as he says, gives "every child a chance to make the American dream come ...

STM Welcomes Report of the Finch Group into Expanding Access to Research Publications in the UK :: 19 June 2012.
STM welcomes the package of measures recommended by the Finch Group on expanding access to research publications in the UK which are set out in the Finch Report released today.

STM hopes that other international discussions on open access can be informed by this process."
STM believes that the principal recommendations of the Finch Report will be widely supported by its members. We particularly welcome the recognition (page 4) of the journal's "key role in the complex ecology of research" and the acknowledgement by the report: that a trans...

Wrecked warehouses and toppled cheeses: Italy counts cost of quakes :: The last thing Italy needed was a disaster costing billions of euros in its most productive region. But that was what happenedSabrina Federzoni steps gingerly into a puddle of syrupy, black balsamic vinegar pooling at the bottom of a curved iron staircase. "It is slippery. Be careful," she warns as she surveys the attic scene: oak casks, some dating back to 1912 when her great-grandmother founded the Monari Federzoni balsamic vinegar operation, lie in a jumble, rivulets of "black gold" seeping from their cracked seams on to the grey cement floor."It takes years to make this product," says Federzoni, whose family business exports 70% of its vinegar to 50 countries, including Britain. "To see it ruined like this, it is so sad."The wave of seismic activity that began on 20 May in northern Ita...
