According to research on the cost of cancer to the UK economy conducted by a team from Oxford University and presented at the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Cancer Conference, the cost of lung cancer is £2.4 billion each year, far higher than the cost of any other cancer. The researchers say these findings highlight the urgent need to continue to reduce the number of young people who become addicted to tobacco as smoking causes more than 8 in 10 lung cancers in the UK.
